-"hi, are you ready? i'm right outside," he texts.
arriving sooner than expected, I rush around my place trying
to find my keys, put on my watch, fix my hair, find the right jacket to wear,
wrap my scarf with the tuck that I'd like best.
-"be right there," I responded
I check the living room thermometer to make sure it's off
and then rush to my room to make sure my bedroom's thermometer is off. I then
go back to the kitchen to make sure the cat's food and water bowl are good to
go. All things are where they should be, so I turn the door, walk to the other
side, close it, and stumble to find the shoes I'd like to wear. I decided to go
for the black leather monk shoes. The hallway is dark and the hallway light,
which is on a schedule, is broken again.
-“I have to put in a service order,” I tell myself for the 6th
time.
As I’m walking down the carpeted stairs, I pat myself to
make sure I have my keys, my phone, and my wallet. I feel the clutter that is
my keys and hear its light clinking. I feel my phone and realize I do not have
my wallet. I unlock the door, go back through my living room and push paper out
of the way to find my wallet. I then rush back out the door, lock the door, run
down the stairs, go through the front door and stand there for a brief three
seconds to find where his car is.
His car is the third one to the left in-front of me. He sits
there and notices me, as if he’s been looking at the door for more than ten
minutes waiting for my appearance. I turn right to follow the sidewalk trail,
then turn left, and then a left again. I walk till I’m on the passenger side,
and by the time I got to the door, he has gotten out, gone through the back and
open the door for me.
-“I miss you,” he says through his smile. “you look nice.”
-“thanks. I miss you too,” I responded quietly as I get into
the car to put on my seat belt.
-“all set?”
-“yes”
He closes the door and returns back to the driver side. As
he put his seat belt on, he looks over my way with his head leaned against his
seat and smiles.
-“what?” I asked in my default uncomfortable smirking
manner.
-“nothing, just glad to see you again. Did you have a good
morning?”
-“yes, I slept in till 10 and then caught up on the news. Also
responded to some email and danced a bit while getting ready.”
-“haha. I’d like to see that.”
Just as my chest settles, unable to understand what had happen between him and I in the past 48 hours, I blinked and when my eyes opened,
I was in bed – the air cold, my hands clenching my comforter, xerxes, my cat,
lays to the left of me.
